Last year I went to a wonderful event run by
underground cinema. It was 1930s aristocracy themed the Melbourne Victorian mansion Rippon Lea. It was renovated in the 20s or so and a deco ballroom and pool area was added, in short an absolutely perfect location. The movie shown was fittingly Gosford Park.
What made it an amazing evening was the addition of a murder mystery game at the beggining, except in this one you could go around the house and interview the suspects who were all quite convincing actors. I wore an original 30s dress I got ages ago but had never actually worn. I also wore a fur coat. Maybe I will post proper photos of that dress later to show. I also spent a very long time attemtping to do my hair. I think it turned out reasonably. I'm only sad I missed the more recent one which was Hillbilly themed! These photos all belong to the underground cinema, they are all from their flickr.
I've been trying to get my friends to go to Rippon Lea for a picnic for about a year now! The gardens are lovely, they're quite large and there's a sort of cave and a multi-story rotunda. I went there and a lot of places like that a fair bit with my parents when I was younger. It would be a lovely place to get married.
