The Carnival

Racegoers in the nursery - Natalie Sady. Photo: Angela Wylie

Today was the much anticipated Melbourne Cup, many people wear quite atrocious things but some nice things appear too, I liked the outfit above for example. I did not attend myself however, for reasons made obvious when you consider the crowds;

Tip #2: Don't turn up at a Cup function without some knowledge of this year's colour and characters.

But I was however fortunate enough to attend the Cup Eve Reception at Melbourne's Government House, which is a most spectacular building, and as it's not often open to the public (and apparently when it is there's apparently very long lines to get in there) I feel doubly fortunate to have viewed it with the added extra of drinks and food being served. I can now also claim to have shaken hands with the premier of Victoria!
